The Lost Art of Hitchhiking

As a young bloke of 14, 15 or 16 I would occasionally find myself miles from home after a party with no ride home. Faced with a long walk in the late (or early!) hours, I would sometimes stick out my thumb in hopes of hitching a ride home. It's not something I did all the time and when I did catch a ride I never had any problems with drivers -

16 July: Happy Birthday Stewart Copeland

StewartCopeland.jpg Born in the United States in 1952, Stewart Copeland grew up in Beirut, Lebanon, and started playing drums to imitate his older brother Ian.

Copeland co-founded the Police with Sting, and wrote or co-wrote most of the band's early tracks. 

He has also scored various pieces of music for, ballet, opera,  orchestras. and movies, including the

15 July: Happy Birthday Linda Ronstadt

LindaRonstadt.jpg Linda Ronstadt established her career in the mid-1960s and since then has sold over 100 million records, lent her voice to over 120 albums and earned 11 Grammy Awards.

Ronstadt retired in 2011, stating at the time that she was "...100 percent retired and I'm not doing anything anymore"

14 July: Celebrating Bob Casale from Devo

BobCasale.jpg Born on this day in 1952, Bob Casale trained as a medical radition technologist, but when brother Gerald asked him to join Devo as a guitarist in 1973 a new career path opened up.

The Casale brothers, along with brothers Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh and Alan Myles, formed the most popular incarnation of the band from 1973 through to 1991.
