 Tuesday - Different Strokes & hits from this week in 1979!

We're visiting mid September 1979.. with a flashback to the popular sitcom "Different Strokes",, a review of the grand final action when St George played the Bulldogs in the NSWRL and the Magies and the Blues rivalry continued in the VFL... and the number 1 hit came from one of the all time biggest one hit wonders with a song that helped out the woman it was written about in more ways than one. All that inside the top 20 from this week in 1979.

 

 Wednesday - We'll get some reaction from the US about Croc Dundee!

Yes, mid September 1986 marks the date when "Crocodile Dundee" premiered in the US after already becoming a box office hit in Australia. We'll check in on the reaction out of the US inside our top 10 from that week... we'll also remember when Andy Griffith returned to our TV's and the number 1 hit during this week in 1986 went on to become the biggest hit of the year.

 

 Thursday - Inside "The Wall" amongst the hits of this week in '82!

We'll go behind the scenes of Pink Floyd's "The Wall" on the 20 20 Retro Countdown on the annivesary of it's premiere in 1982. Also, there's the grand final action in the NSWRL and VFL and we'll remember when a talking car was a hit on tele. The number 1 was a hit from a movie too! Rainbows, 80's And The Hit-Less This Week On The 20 20

  Monday - The Rainbow Connected Countdown!

Thanks to Kim for suggesting this one on the website - brilliant idea - the "Rainbow Connected Hits"... 20 songs with colours of the rainbow in the title! So with the help of 20 artists - we can sing a rainbow... red and yellow and pink and green ..orange and purple and blue..you can sing a rainbow too!! Along the way in the countdown - a movie called "Rainbow" - a Rainbow God and a number of versions of the most famous Rainbow song... on the 20 20 Retro Countdown!

 

 Tuesday - it's the anniversary of the arrival of little blue creatures!

Yes, the Smurfs arrived on our tele's in mid-September 1981.. so i've got the top 20 from that week on the way. The number 1 came from a group put together by a 70's rocker... there's the movie that gave us an insight into a silver scree star and we'll get all the sporting news from the VFL and NSWRL finals... and the US Open.. as we visit this week in 1981.

 

 Wednesday - Check out the Hawks huge win over the Demons!

Do you remember when Hawthorne put the cleaners through Melbourne in the 1988 grand final? That's where we are headed in the next countdown - this week in '88! The action was a little closer in the NSWRL when Canterbury defeatred Balmain. Inside the top 20, we'll also remember the movie that took us deep into the jungles of Rwanda and there's Robert Palmer - feeling uncomfortable at number 1. More on that and the biggest hits from this week in 1988! 

 

 Thursday - Remembering an incredible moment in show biz.

It was during this week in 1976 that legendary duo Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were reunited on stage by mutual friend Frank Sinatra. What a moment! Rumour is - the reunion didn't last long... but, it gives us the chance to roll out the hits from mid-September 1976. While we're there - we'll re-live the grand final action in the VFL and NSWRL and it was the week when NASA announced a leap forward in their space program. All that's on the way as we head towards the number 1 from Sherbet!

It's an interesting countdown... the music artists you know who released multiple singles.. but none of those reached the top 10 here in Australia! Sure, they may have charted well overseas... but here, they just missed the mark! So while there was no presentations of Gold Records for sales here - they do get a place in the top 20 of the "Biggest Artists Without A Big Hit" 20 20 Retro Countdown!

Join us as we blow out the candles on a heap of celebrity birthday cakes.. celebrating the biggest artists in the top 20, and giving a special birthday shout out to some of the other celebrities with their special day coming up in September. Along the way, there's the Aussie soap star turned singer who never wanted to do anything else... some big sporting birthdays and at number 1, the man who's never had a job outside of music.  Tuesday - Back to the week when this TV show started!

Yes, we'll remember the original "Law & Order" when we play the hits of this week in 1990. Also, there's the tv ad that featured some pretty big Australian celebrities and the first Hollywood Blockbuster for one of our favourite actresses. The number 1 is the solo hit for a rock band lead singer who was not only on the charts - he was also on the big screen... and of course on our countdown of the hits of early September 1990.

 

 Wednesday, We remember Keith Moon!

Yes, it was in the first week of September 1978 that Who drummer Keith Moon died. This was his last interview. We'll remember "Moon The Loon" amongst the top 20 from this week in 1978... featuring 2 hits from a popular movie musical that was on the big screen at the time. On the tele - an alien landed who had previously made an appearance on Happy Days. All that and more as we visit this week in 1978.

 

  Thursday - Back to the week when this movie started!

Yes, we were thrilled by Fatal Attraction during this week in 1987! Now, if that wasn't your thing.. you might have been at home listening to the most anticipated album of the 80's - it was released in early September 1987. Info-tainment arrived on tv in Australia - and speaking of tele - the number 1 spot was held by the biggest soapie star of the time - find out who when we turn back the 20 20 clock!

Yes, we're heading back to late August 1983 when the final episodes of "Quincy ME" went to air. What a great show - starring Jack Klugman - it ran from 1976 til 1983. Also among the top 20 hits of that week, we'll preview what were thriller finals series in the NSWRL and the VFL.. in both cases, the minor premiers were not the ones holding up the trophy on Grand Final Day.
