Songwriters And Trios Feature This Week On The 20 20

  Monday - The Greatest Songwriting Teams!

Don't miss our tribute to the songwriting teams who gave us some of the biggest hits of all time. Some were behind closed doors churning out the hits.. others broke away and charted themselves.. the most famous wrote hits for their own bands and others - like Jagger Richards were "encouraged" to form a songwriting combination.  Tuesday - A PM's promise, and the hits of this week in 1987!

Yes, we're heading back to late June 1987 when Prime Minister Bob Hawke made this promise to launch his bid to be re-elected. We'll also hear one of the election campaign ads that you'll probably remember - and head to the cinemas to check out the latest Mel Brooks comedy. Meanwhile, at number 1, it's the singer who was setting amazing chart records both here and in the US, becoming the first female to top the American charts with her first 4 singles. That and more as we visit this week in 1987.

 

 Wednesday - From Colour TV - To the hits of the radio during late June 1978!

By mid year 1978, Australia was setting the pace for conversion to colour television. Just 3 months after Aunty Jack was invaded by the "colour monster", 65% of Aussie homes had bought new TV sets. More on that amongst the hits of this week in 1978 along with the Warren Beaty movie that was at the cinemas and at number 1 - the hit that takes it's lyrics directly from the bible..

 

 Thursday - It's the Muppets - and the hits of this week in 1981!

Yes, the second in the Muppet movie series premiered during this week in 1981.. and that's where we're headed on the 20 20 Retro Countdown. Along the way too, we'll remember the latest British sitcom to hit Australian televisions - and there was a special milestone for Holden... and at number 1 - it's the song written after the songwriter watched the Bette Davis movie "Now Voyager". Yes, we are entering back into "La La Land" with 20 songs wth prominent la la la's... including a number 1 accused of stealing it's la la la's! Along the way we'll compare a cover to the original la la la's.. and drag out a few da da da's and na na na's to play outside the countdown!

"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" premiered during this week in 1986.. and that's where we're headed in this countdown! Got the top 20 from a time when we were watching Mr Rooney chasing down his wayward student! We'll also replay the finals of the French Open - and the number 1 teams up Cliff Richard and the Young Ones in a single that raised heaps for charity! All that and more as we visit mid June 1986!

Yes, we're heading back to the week when they were planning the final episode of the Ausse drama "Number 96". It was also the week when the last English woman to win Wimbledon was holding up the trophy... and the number 1 was a song that's origins can be traced back to the 1920's! More on that when we play the hits of this week in 1977!

Yes, the 10th Bond movie "The Spy Who Loved Me" premiered during this week in 1983! While Bond fans were happy, Aussie cricket fans were watching our world cup hopes slipping away when we went down in a huge upset - do you remember who beat us?? More on that and a hit that was written for Meatloaf - but picket up by someone else - as we play the top 20 of mid June 1983!!

We're heading back to the week when "City Slickers" hit the big screen. It was a busy week - the chase for skase started after the former part owner of 7 and the Brisbane Bears filed for bankrupcy. In other news, Prime Minister Bob Hawke and Treasurer Paul Keating went head to head and the number 1 came from a bet. That and more as we visit this week in 1991.

Join us we head back to the week when one of the all time movie greats, John Wayne died. We'll pay tribute to the Duke amongst the hits of this week in 1979. Also, we'll remember when we started saying "And Aveagoodweekend". It wasn't such a great time for Australian cricket as we remember the 1979 Cricket World Cup.. and the number 1 came from a group who had 2 big chart toppers within a month of each other. That and more as we play the top 20 from early June 1979!

Yes, they were on top of the world in 1985! Hey Hey It's Saturday successful switch to a night time variety show was confirmed when they were switched to 6.30. We'll remember that inside the top 20 from this week... also the latest James Bond film premiered in London and old coke was back. Speaking of returns, our number 1 comes from a band who hadn't had a hit in Australia for 4 years. That and more as we visit early June 1985 on the 20 20 Retro Countdown!

This 20 20 Retro Countdown takes us back to the week when the final episode of Mork & Mindy aired. We'll re-live those final moments when we play the hits of this week in 1982. It was also the week when a new record was set for solving the rubiks cube. I still haven't solved it in 35 years (without taking the stickers off!)
