November 1988

1988

It's Oz Music Month! - we're celebrating Australian music right through November... and in the next countdown - we're playing the top 20 from this week in 1988 - our Bicentennial year and a great year for Aussie artists..

Mid November '88 saw the release of a movie about one of the most intriguing mysteries in Australia's history...

It was called "A Cry In The Dark" in some countries... but here it had the title - "Evil Angels"

Now, while Expo wrapped up a couple of weeks before the week of this countdown... there are a stack of Aussie artists in the top 20 who performed on EXPO stages across those amazing 6 months..

We'll remember some of those artists and look back on other events from this week in 1988 on the next 20 20 Retro Countdown!

November 1986

1986

It's OZ Music Month... so it's fitting that in the next countdown we're heading back to the week that the biggest selling Australian album of all time was released..

On our journey back to mid November 1986, we'll play the top 20 songs (guess who's at number 1......) and remember the TV mini-series that aired on channel 9 in the lead up to the 12th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy..

And during November 1986, all eyes were on the Queensland election... Joh Bjelke-Petersen went on to win his last election - but that win sparked the JOH for PM campaign!

All that and more as we wind the 20 20 Retro Countdown clock back to mid November 1986!

Guy Fawkes Night

guy title

Do you remember going to a Guy Fawkes Night celebration...

They started to wind down here in Australia around the time that the general sale of fireworks was banned in the late 70's .. but I remember a couple of Guy Fawkes nights just with sparklers and a bonfire in the 80's... and maybe there are still events held on the 5th of November..

While the celebration is still strong in Britain, New Zealand and other countries... we're letting off our own fireworks on the 20 20 Retro Countdown..

Now, do you recall the poem that goes with Guy Fawkes celebrations...

guy poem

So - we're playing 20 songs that could descibe a night on a blanket looking up at the sky and going.... ooooohhhhh - ahhhhhhh!

guy fireworks

Along the way we'll learn more about the Guy Fawkes night celebration and hear the story behind this mask...

It's no suprise that we don't celebrat guy fawkes or "Bonfire Night" anymore in Australia... after all.. it is a time when the weather gets warmer and the fire season starts... but we can still have a bit of fun and play 20 songs about fireworks on the 20 20 Retro Countdown!!
