Monday, we feaure 20 hits that are Sci Fi themed...and along the way we'll remember some of the greatest sci fi movies of all time... what do you think of this list?
Early August On The 20 20
Monday - The Sci Fi Hits!
We're boldly going where no countdown has gone before... searching the universe for 20 songs about aliens, time travel, scientific discovery, computers and all those other great sci fi themes... and along the way, we'll countdown the greatest Sci Fi movies of all time.. I'll add that list to the website during the week!
Tuesday - the hits of this week in 1979!
Don't miss the hits from the week when the man they called "Deeks" burst onto the scene with his first Australian Title! 3 Years later he had a Commonwealth Gold! At the same time, the movie considered the worst in the James Bond movie series premiered and the number 1 hit was from a group who were in a purple patch.. with their second number 1 in a short period!
Wednesday - We'll slip back to early August 1992.
Anyone with kids in the early 90's will remember when the Bananas arrived on our televisions! B1 and B2, along with the Wiggles took kids entertainment to a new level! You would've had the DVD's, the cups and plates, the school bag and lunch boxes! Also, we'll remember the movie that won Clint Eastwood his Academy Award for best director... and the number 1 was a song without a town! Thursday - Remembering this soap and the hits of this week in 1987!
Yes, it's the TV show that ran for nearly a thousand episodes between 1981 and August 1987. Now, that final epissode was actually screened at different times.. some during this week - others cities got it later in August ... and if you were in some regional areas, you didn't see the cliff hanging finale until December! Speaking of Aussie Soaps, a star from another one was at the top of the charts!
Friday - the Compilation Compilation!
Love it whe we get the chance to grab out some of those compilation albums that were so popular in the 70's and 80's. Did you have a copy of "Hitwave" from 1978? Or how about "1984 Shakin'". We'll play the biggest hits from those 2 albums over 2 hours on the compilation compilation!

Monday - it's a laugh a minute!
It's the "Laughing All The Way To Number 1" 20 20 Retro Countdown - featuring songs with laughing in them. In most cases it's loud and clear - but some of the songs, you'll have to listen closely to hear the giggles... Also, find out which famous laugh could have had the laugher laughing all the way to the bank!
Tuesday, we're breaking out the party hats again!
Can you believe it's "August" already?? Seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the July Birthdays! Join me as we sing happy birthday to the Queen Of Country Pop, the undisputed Queen of the charts and a member of Queen.... and we'll remember the King of Pop on the August Birthday 20 20 Retro Countdown!
Wednesday - Back to the week when this TV show started!
Yes, we're playing of early August 1988! featuring the number 1 that was the title track from the biggest selling Australian album of the year! And while the action packed TV show "Airwolf" was starting on the small screen - a hit movie starring Tom Cruise and Elizabeth Shue premiered on the big screen - "Cocktail".
Thursday - we'll fast track the hits from this week in 1982!
When Fast Times At Ridgemont High was the hit movie.. starring some of the biggest stars of the 80's in very early roles! Meanwhile, In Brisbane, the final preparations were being made for the Commonwealth Games! Do you remember the winking mascot? More on that in our trip back to August 1982!
Friday - it's all about life!
We're putting plenty of LIFE into the 20 20 Retro Countdown - with 20 songs with life in the title... from "Life In The Fast Lane" from the Eagles.. to "Live Your Life Be Free" by Belinda Carlisle and "Life" by Desree...20 hits that are all about LIFE!

Monday - The Whistling Hits!
Yes, the week starts with the top 20 hits that feature whistling - and along the way, we'll catch up with 2 former whistling world champions..
Tuesday - 1986!
Here come the hits of this week in 1986 - when the sequel to the 1979 thriller Alien premiered. We'll also hear from the Aussie band who did their first ever interview at the start of the year - by mid year, they had a hit album and a number 1 single!
Wednesday - 1976!
We're rolling out the biggest songs from this week in 1976 when Nadia Comaneci scored her perfect 10.. and the perfect 20 on the charts featured a number 1 from an Aussie band who were called "Highway" in the US.
Thursday - 1980!
Join us for the hits of late July 1980 when one of Australia's all time favourite game shows started! There's also the KISS hit that only featured one member..and the number 1 had a couple of stints at the top of the charts!
Friday - Counting The Beat
We drag out one our favourite countdowns - 20 songs that feature counting! Some of the songs have count ins.. others count during the song.. others count through a list of items... and we'll count the beat at number 1!
The 20 20 Mid Year Review...
6 months down already in 2017 - (where has the year gone) - so over the next couple of weeks, we'll take the opportunity to look back at our favourite countdowns from 2017 so far...
Here are our top 10 countdowns from the first half of the year as they line up in the first 2 weeks of July...
MONDAY 03rd - ORIGINALS VERSUS COVERS 2
It's our second originals versus covers battle! Earlier in the year, we gathered up another 20 covers - put them up against the original - and played the version that charted highest in Australia. Plus, outside the countdown - more of those songs you might not know were covers. Watch out for the 3 Originals Versus Covers Battle a little later in the year.
TUESDAY 04th - FREEDOM
It was only a few months ago that we set free 20 hits with "Free" or "Freedom" in the title. There are some great songs in this countdown... hits from the Soup Dragons, Albert Hammond, The Bodeans, John Farnham and George Michael x 2... So free yourself up for a couple of hours and don't miss our Freedom 20 20 Retro Countdown!
WEDNESDAY 05th - PLAYING THE BILLS
I love this countdown... A short time ago we trading in paying the bills.... for PLAYING the Bills!! Our collection of the biggest Bills and Billys in music... and isn't there a stack - Joel, Idol, Squire, Wyman, Ocean... and a few Bill band members you might not know of. So at a time of year when there is plenty of attention on bills.... we're featuring the better kind.
THURSDAY 06th - FAMILY MEMBERS
You might remember, during the first 6 months of 2017 - we set aside an entire week to play family themed countdowns... we had brothers, songs by family members and others... in our mid year review - we're bringing back our countdown featuring songs that mention a family member - from Daddy Cool to Uncle Albert, Mamma Mia, Brothers in Arms and Sister Madly...
FRIDAY 07 - IN THE MOVIE - SUNG THE SONG
In this countdown - we're paying tribute to those artists who had a dual role in some big box office hits - they starred in the movie and were responsible for the biggest hit from the soundtrack - in some cases like Phil Collins in "Buster" and Whitney Houston in "The Bodyguard" - they provided the majority of the soundtrack. In The Movie - Sung The Song - another of our favourite countdowns from 2017 so far!
MONDAY 10th - SIGNATURE HITS
This was controversial when we ran it just a few weeks ago... We chose 20 bands and artists and matched them up with songs that we regarded as their "Signature Hits" - the songs that immidiately come to mind when those hitmakers are mentioned. There were plenty of comments on our website - so you didn't agree with all of the songs that we chose.
TUESDAY 11th - SINGERS TURNED JUDGES
When Boy George joined the Australian judging panel of "The Voice" - we put together a colletion of the biggest singers who went from having their own hits to guiding the next generation of performers... those people behind the X or the big red chair - or at the panel of IDOL or Australia's Got Talent.
WEDNESDAY 12th - MOVIE COVERS
We love mixing movies and music on the 20 20 Retro Countdown... and the second of our favourite movie soundtrack themed countdowns - brings out those songs that were covered particularly for a movie. Many of them were to set the era like "The Shoop Shoop Song" By Cher... others paid tribute to an artist - "La Bamba" Los Lobos... and then there were just great songs that were given a new lease on life and added to the movie. They're all on the way in another of our favourite countdowns of 2017!
THURSDAY 13th - HEY JOE
We searched far and wide for the biggest Joe's in music... and this is out top 20. Scarbury, Tex, Perry, Jackson, Dolce, Stummer, Camilleri, Walsh and Cocker are among our Joe feature. The outside the countdown - some of those songs that mention a Joe in the title... including that Jimi Hendrix classic. So make yourself a sloppy joe, make a cup of joe and enjoy the Joe's on the 20 20 Retro Countdown!
FRIDAY 14th - WORKING HARD
It's been a busy half to the year - so it makes sense that we should wrap up our 20 20 mid year review with our countdown about working. 20 song with work in the title or about a putting in a full day.
