Yes, we've put together a countdown "Rich with Richards and Ricks"... There's all the favourites - Astley, Marx, Starkey... but along the way, there are a stack of little known Ricks and Richards who were key members of some of the biggest bands of all time.... And we'll pay tribute to some other celebrity Richards... including Mr Simmons!

Yes, we've got the paper chart featuring the top 20 from mid October 1985 - with a top 10 that brought together David Bowie and Mick Jagger for "Live Aid". Listen to the countdown to hear the intereting plans they were making to launch their single together. Also Arnie was back on the big scren in the movie that really cemented him as the biggest action star of the 80's!

It's a countdown topped by a song that was not only a huge hit.. it introduced us to the huge line dancing craze! Also famous for his dancing was Fat Cat... but times weren't good for the children's TV favourite. He was in the news as questions were raised over his educational value. It was the beginning of the end for Fat Cat! We'll remember that amongst the hits of this week in 1992!

Don't miss our countdown of the hits from the week when this movie premiered! Yes, we'll remember one of the most bizarre hit movies, and play 20 hits from a time when the hits were equally bizarre.. Anything could make the charts and usually did... from a band with flower pots on their head to an Elvis impersonator.. They're part of our visit to mid October 1981!

Sir Cliff Richard tops our October Birthdays Countdown... but along the way, we'll also celebrate with Robbie Neville, the lead singers of the Police and Van Halen... and away from the music scene - 3 of Australia's biggest actors Hugh Jackman, Guy Pearce and Paul Hogan all have birthdays coming up. We'll celebrate with them on the October Birthdays Countdown!

Join us on a trip back to early October 1986 when this movie premiered... so while we are turning back the clock.. Peggy Sue goes even further back in time....we're stopping off at the week when Boom Crash Opera were living up to their potential... and Paul Simon reached number with a song that was inspired by his time in South Africa. We'll also include a memorable tv ad from this week in 1986!

Join us as we remember the first ever AFL Grand Final draw and the return to the MCG during this week for the Grand Final replay. Who took out the title? Find out during our trip back to early October 1977. At number 1, there's a hit that held the top spot for 9 weeks - a surprise even to the singer... and we'll remember the british comedy that finished up during this week in 1977!

Yes, we'll visit the week when "Cool Runnings" started at the cinema.. we play a tv ad flashback and play memorable hits from Haddaway and Innercircle... there's the hit that came to Billy Joel in a dream and our number 1 marks a return to the charts - the first hit in 15 years!

It's all about big hair, guitar solos and love songs like we'd never heard before! So join us for a countdown that features the likes of Whitesnake, Def Leppard, Gunners and Meatloaf!

Yes, this countdown takes us back to mid September 1988 - when Sigourney Weaver starred as Dian Fossey in the movie that became one of the big hits of the year and went on recceive 5 academy award nominations. If you weren't watching "Gorillas In The Mist" - you were probably checking out the grand final action! In the VFL - the star studded Hawks thrashed the Demons. In the NSWRL.. Caterbury just got over Balmain 24-12!

Join us for the top 20 from this week in 1979.. when the hit TV comedy "Dfferent Strokes" premiered! Driven largely by the cute one liners of star Gary Coleman, it quickly became a favourite that still pops up every now and then. Meanwhile, in grand final action - Collingwood and Carlton palyed out one of the most memborable VFL Grand Finals off all time.. And in the league the Dragons got over the Bulldogs. More on those events and the hits of this week in 1979!

It was during this week in 1982 that we were introduced to Matilda as she marched around the stadium to launch Brisbane's Commonwealth Games. We'll remember that amongst the top 20 from mid September. It was also the week that Pink Floyd's "The Wall" movie  premiered.. and Parramatta and Carlton were the top 2 teams in the nation after taking out their respective grand finals!

Rock N Roll, The Muppets And A Miraculous Innings This Week

Can't believe we haven't done this countdown before! There are so many songs with "Rock" or "Rock And Roll" in the title, so we,ve put the top 20 into Monday's countdown. From Joan Jett's love of rock and roll... to Bob Seger's tribute and the Rolling Stone's hit back against the media.. the songs might have different inspiration, but they all share that rock and roll theme. Have a listen to the countdown and let us know if there are any you reckon should've been there.

You might not know this, but Jim Henson and his team had two pilots rejected before they finally got the Muppet Show off the ground during this week in 1976. I've got a piece from the first episode to play as we countdown the hits from mid September '76... and at number it's the group who were at the top of their game. They had 4 songs chart that year, totalling 30 weeks at number 1... more than 6 months on top of the charts, and their signature song was at number 1 during this week.

Don't miss the top 20 from the week when Dean Jones scored one of the most memorable double centuries in cricket history. In scorching conditions in Chennai he defied the odds to put 210 on the board and lead Australia to a hard fought victory. We'll hear more about that as we play the hits of this week in 1986 - featuring the number 1 hit that went on to become the biggest selling single of the year.

Do you remember the movie "Mommie Dearest"? The story told by the adopted daughter of silver screen actress Joan Crawford, premiered during this week in 1981...that's where we're headed with the paper chart in hand... and what a top 20 it is - filled with hits from Rick Springfield, Stars On 45, Men At Work, Bucks Fizz and Phil Collins... It's what made the top 20 special back then - anything could make the charts and usually did.

Just recently on the website, I received a question asking if we had done a countdown featuring hits with lyrics other than english.. well yes we have and it's one of our favourites.. so we've dragged it out again. It's the "Mad Monday" Countdown with a collection of foolish, wild and crazy songs.. and along the way we'll look at the AFL and NRL teams who are already on Mad Monday - and we'll celebrate the teams who are still in with a chance in 2017!

 

Footy.jpg 1990 - The week of havoc in the AFL!

Join us for the hits of early September 1990 - when the Qualifying finals clash between the Magpies and the Eagles created turmoil in the AFL! Why? Cause the match ended in a draw - and with no extra time, they had to replay the final a week later. For the record - the Maggies won the rematch and went on to win the flag!

On Wednesday, we're visiting the week when a spin off from "Happy Days" permiered in the US. The great Robin Williams starred opposite Pam Dawber in "Mork and Mindy" - the story of an Alien from Ork and his adventures on Earth. We'll mix a bit of Mork into the top 20 from this week in 1978!

Can you believe that this week marks the 30th anniversary of the release of Michael Jackson's "BAD". Ofcourse, "Thriller" was a hard act to follow, and it took 5 years for the follow up album to hit the stores. Wasn't bad at all - sold 35 million copies! We'll pay tribute to Bad as we play the hits of this week in 1987!

Thanks to Sharon who went to the website and suggested a countdown featuring hits that feature the Harmonica... Great suggestion - why didn't we think of that! There are some brilliant artists who have mastered the harmonica and we've squeezed 20 into this countdown... actually, Stevie Wonder in particular pops up a few times. It's the Harmonica Hits on Friday.. and remember, you can suggest a theme for a countdown anytime - right here!
