Our next 20 20 Retro Countdown journey takes us back to late September 1979..

To the week when some of America's biggest artists gathered at Madison Square Garden for the No Nukes Concert... the event which attracted around 500,000 people - was released as a record and also turned into a movie.

 

 

This week in 1979 also marks the release of a new TV series... centred around a character who first turned up in comic books and radio serials in the 1920's..

 

Meanwhile... in grand final action... St George defeated Canterbury Bankstown in the NSWRL decider...

 

And check out this action from the 1979 VFL Grand Final... Carlton got the Magpies by less than a goal..

In the next 20 20 Retro Countdown - we'll play the top 20 from the week when the Seoul Olympics were on... but unfortunately, the attention wasn't on the medals being given out.... it was on the medal taken away...

 

If you weren't watching the Olympics... maybe you went to the Cinema to see this movie... it premiered during this week in 1988...

 

And these guys were part of a new tv sensation...

Destination - mid-September 1986 - on the 20 20 Retro Countdown..

The week when Crocodile Dundee hit cinemas in the US nearly 6 months after it's Australian premiere... Paul Hogan had already smashed box office records here... so the big test was how it would go in American cinemas..

 

Meanwhile... in 1986 finals action... the Parramatta Eels were about to face off against the Canterbury Bulldogs in the NSWRL decider... Minor Premiers - the Eels went on to defeat the Bulldogs in the lowest scoring Grand Final ever... 4-2!

 

             

 

In the VFL Hawthorne lowered the colours of the Blues - as they took out the '86 flag by 42 points!

In the same week that the Smurfs turned up on our TV's.... this movie hit the cinemas in the US... after a successfull run in Australia cinemas that started in April..

 

And it was finals time in the AFL and NSWRL... two cracking grand finals were set up with Collingwood winning their way into the big one to take on the Blues...

 

 

And in the league... Newtown defeated Easts for the right to challenge Parramatta for the premiership...
