Born George Alan O'Dowd in 1961, Boy George was at the vanguard of new romantic music in England in the late 1970s and early 1980s, with his band Culture Club.

Their debut 1982 album Kissing To Be Clever included the international hit Do You Really Want to Hurt Me? and their follow-up album Colour By Numbers sold more than 10 million copies
